Commentra Privacy Policy

Commentra helps you leave feedback on specific areas of a website, capture screenshots, and share your comments. This policy explains how the Chrome extension handles your information.

Information Commentra handles

To provide its features, Commentra processes and stores:

  • Your chosen display name, which may be a nickname or a randomly suggested name.
  • Comments you write, their creation times, and their resolved status.
  • Website addresses and page titles associated with your feedback.
  • Page element references, coordinates, and dimensions used to position comment boxes.
  • Screenshots of areas you select.
  • Shared comment snapshots and feedback you explicitly import from shared HTML files.
  • Temporary settings, such as whether the panel is visible.

Comments and screenshots may contain personal information depending on what you choose to write or capture.

When Commentra accesses a page

Commentra accesses a webpage after you activate it using the extension icon or its keyboard shortcut. It uses that access to display the feedback panel, position comments, and capture selected areas.

When taking a screenshot, Chrome captures the visible tab. Commentra processes that image locally and retains only the selected crop.

Commentra does not automatically inspect unrelated tabs or collect your general browsing history.

How information is used and stored

Information is used to create, display, save, resolve, import, and share website feedback.

Your information is stored locally in your Chrome profile. Commentra does not upload your comments, display name, screenshots, or shared snapshots to developer-operated servers, and it does not automatically sync this information across devices.

Commentra does not use analytics, advertising trackers, or remotely hosted executable code.

Sharing

Creating a Share page produces a local snapshot of your feedback. Downloaded HTML files include comments, author names, timestamps, website information, comment locations, and available screenshots.

Commentra does not automatically publish or send these files. You decide whether to share them and with whom. Anyone receiving a file can view its contents and may retain or redistribute it.

Opening the original website from a shared page is subject to that website’s own privacy practices.

Retention and deletion

Saved feedback remains in your Chrome profile until you delete it or remove the extension. You can change your display name in Settings and delete individual comments in the panel.

Deleting a comment does not remove copies already included in saved share snapshots or downloaded HTML files. Removing the extension clears its locally stored extension data. Downloaded files and copies held by recipients must be deleted separately.

Limited use

Commentra uses information accessed through Chrome APIs solely to provide its website feedback features, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

We do not sell this information or use it for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.

Contact and policy updates
